One of the biggest mistakes most businesses make in a recession is to cut their marketing plans even though marketing is the lifeblood of your business. If you don't market, you don't make sales.

Now it may be more difficult to make money online if you are having to slash your marketing costs, but that doesn't mean you should stop marketing. All you have to do is be a little more creative.

One of the most effective ways to market your business and really get results is through repetition. The more you put your marketing message in front of your potential customers, the more likely you are to get results. (Think opt in lists and ezines.)

Just make sure that your marketing is targeted. In other words, market in front of those who are interested in what you sell. Don't waste your time on people who aren't interested in what you have to offer.

Market your business using free online and offline techniques. Online techniques include search engine optimization, article writing, forum marketing, press releases, classified advertising and joint ventures. Offline, you may want to consider buying business cards, creating flyers, using low cost classifieds in free papers.

As your business continues to make more money, roll some of your profits back into your marketing plan. The more you market, the more you can increase your profits.

Another thing you want to

consider is your own marketing and copywriting skills. What skills do you have? This will influence how you market your business. If you don't have these skills, you definitely want to develop them. These skills will make your more effective in promoting your business. The more effective you are, the less you will have to work to get the sale.

How you market is also another major consideration. When you're first starting off, you will only want to try one marketing technique at a time. If you try more than one technique at a time, you will have difficulty telling which technique is driving traffic and sales in your business.

Choose a technique that you want to do. I personally use article writing and submission because it gets me all of the traffic and sales I need. Consider too that I'm also a writer so it's something I enjoy doing.

If you hate the marketing technique you are doing, you won't do it. You'll also find that although there are many techniques that work, there is one technique that will work best for you if you give it your best effort.

Market more. Market consistently. Master your marketing technique. Test and track your marketing. These are your keys to success. Much of marketing is trial and error until you determine what works. You'll never know until you get started.
