Since vacuuming is an integral part of area rugs cleaning, a few guidelines are to be be followed to keep them looking their freshest. Vacuuming prevents dirt and sand from damaging the fibers in an area rug. These things act as abrasives and will wear down the carpet fibers. especially in busy cities like Charlotte, North Carolina, these tips will come in handy to many residents.

Keep in mind when you are cleaning area rugs there are a few types of rugs that should not be vacuumed. They would benefit more from a good shaking. Flokaki rugs and leather shag rugs are just such examples. After shaking these types of rugs, they can be raked through with a comb. Bamboo or sisal rugs can be either shaken or vacuumed, depending on which area rug cleaning technique is preferable to you.

Area rugs that are on the smallish side can be shaken by hand. Simply hold one end of the rug and snap it to loosen unwanted dirt and sand from the rug. Switch ends and repeat the process. If a rug is too large to accomplish a simple snap, then first, hang the rug over a fence or clothesline. Next, beat the rug with a broomstick or a similar tool.

It's true that with area rug cleaning some experts advise that valuable rugs be vacuumed every day. In reality, most people are simply too busy to take the time to do this. A suitable compromise can be vacuuming the area rug as often as possible. In your area rugs cleaning endeavor, remember that area rugs that sit in busy areas of your home (family rooms, walkways such as

hallways) need to be vacuumed more often as these areas are subject to more dirt and grime.

Some cleaning experts advise that vacuuming on only be done using your vacuum's rug attachment. In other words, the hose should be used rather than letting the rotating beater bar come into contact with the rug. However, there are area experts who believe just the opposite - that it's okay to move the beater bar on cut pile rugs as long as a few rules are adhered to.

Whether or not you decide to use the hose, there are a few things to keep in mind. A vacuum isn't as efficient as it could be if the bag is more than half-full. (Also, letting the bag get completely full will damage the vacuum's motor.) Be sure to empty the vacuum bag on a regular basis.

Sometimes, a rug needs to be vacuumed often during the first year after purchase because of an excess of fuzzy material on the rug. (This is normal and is nothing to worry about.) In order to prevent matting on a rug, vacuum in both directions; this is always necessary on the highly trafficked areas of the rug. Be aware though that there are a few area rug cleaning experts who will tell you to vacuum only in the direction of the pile similar to how you stroke a cats fur so as to not upset it.

In the end you will just have to find the right company with the right people to trust. Remember, they are the professionals and a professional always stands behind their products and procedures for cleaning carpets, area rugs, etc.
