With the current economy being the way it is, I - like many others - found myself needing to downsize my home when my flatmate lost his job. I couldn't afford to pick up the slack and after he moved to somewhere cheaper, I decided to move out as well rather than going through the process of finding a new flatmate. The idea of having my own space was definitely appealing, but I had a lot of possessions and finding a flat big enough to house them all would have cost almost as much as the place I was looking to leave.
I didn't want to sell or throw away most of the belongings I had, but finding a flat big enough for all of them was looking increasingly like it would be beyond my budget, until my soon to be ex-flatmate told me that he was going to put most of his property into storage and move into a bedsit until he found another job. The storage idea was great - there must be a good storage provider in Leicester, I thought, so I quickly searched the internet for one to see what the prices were like. It turned out they were much cheaper than I was expecting, so with this idea in my head, I
resumed flat-hunting.
Knowing that I would just hire a storage unit in nearby Leicester to hold the items I wouldn't need that often really opened up the housing market for me since I wasn't so worried about space anymore. I was just focussing on having enough space for the essentials and it made looking for a new place to live very liberating since I have a lot of possessions that I don't really need but don't want to sell either.
Hiring my Leicester storage unit was very simple; I received a quote online for the amount of space I'd need and the monthly cost was certainly a lot lower than renting a bigger flat would have been. The unit is more than big enough for my needs and I can access it whenever I want with a key that I am the sole holder of.
The convenience of having a storage unit in Leicester is really unbeatable if now I've found myself having to downsize my home. It offered me the chance to find a flat that was within my means without having to sell my possessions. If you find yourself in a similar situation, I would recommend self storage to anyone, at least until the financial situation picks itself back up and you can afford somewhere bigger.
