Most of us know how to clean the kitchen. If you have a few basic kitchen ingredients on hand, you can easily make your own cleaning solutions.
Before getting started, stock up on distilled white vinegar, lemon juice, fresh lemons, salt, baking soda, isopropyl rubbing alcohol, olive oil, walnut oil, lemon extract (these three are for wood cleaning only) and a few empty squirt bottles. The kitchen cleaning tips here will use these ingredients to help you clean most anything in your kitchen.
Coffee Maker: Fill coffee maker with equal parts vinegar and water. Run. Cleanse with several more water-only cycles, until vinegar is completely rinsed away.
Microwave: In a Pyrex bowl or measuring cup, mix 2 tablespoons of lemon juice with 2 cups of water. Microwave on high for up to 4 minutes. Tap bowl before removing to avoid boiling spillover. Remove and immediately wipe microwave clean.
Garbage Disposal: To freshen, grind up lemon wedges a few times a week. To eliminate odors from a stinky disposal, put 2 tablespoons of baking soda and a few ice cubes into the disposal. Grind until quiet, running with hot water to rinse clean.
Stainless Steel: Wipe with a microfiber cloth for surface spots. For dirtier stainless, combine a small amount of dish soap and water, then rinse and dry; if abrasive is needed, sprinkle a few teaspoons of baking soda onto a wet sponge; scrub, rinse, dry.
Blender: To clean a dirty blender, fill halfway with warm water and put a few drops of dishsoap. Cover and blend for 1 minute.
Slow Drain: Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by 1/2 cup vinegar. Put in stopper, and let sit for a few minutes. Mixture will be foamy! Rinse away with a teapot full of boiling water down the drain. DO NOT USE AFTER COMMERCIALLY BOUGHT PRODUCTS!

Make a paste with 1/2 cup warm water, 1/2 cup salt and 1 1/2 cups of baking soda. Spread throughout the oven, avoiding any metal parts, and let sit all day or overnight. Next, combine equal parts warm water and vinegar (about 1/2 cup each) in a squirt bottle, and completely spray the inside of the oven. Wipe clean. Rinse with clean water to avoid that unsightly white film.
Copper Bottom Pots: Put 1 teaspoon of baking soda or salt over the top of 1/2 a fresh lemon. Scrub.
Grimy Pots: Fill with water and add a squirt of dishsoap. Put on the stove, and allow to heat to a boil. Turn off and let sit until cool. Then scrub and dry!
Silver: Plug up sink. Line with aluminum foil and pour hot water into the sink. Add 2 tablespoons each of salt and baking soda. Add tarnished silver, allowing to touch the foil and each other. For heavy tarnish, soak for up to 5 minutes. Once clean, rinse and dry with a soft cloth. To prevent tarnish once these are clean, wrap tightly with plastic wrap and store.
Windows/Glass: Plain club soda sprayed from a squirt bottle works great. For grimier windows use this solution: To a 1 qt. squirt bottle add 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol and 1/3 cup vinegar, then top off with water.
Wood Cabinets: To clean, mix 1/4 teaspoon light olive oil with 1/4 cup vinegar; to polish, mix 1/4 cup walnut oil with 4 drops of lemon extract
Countertop Stain remover: Make a paste of baking soda and water or lemon juice.
Sticky Label Remover: Soak in hot, soapy water overnight. Scrape and wipe. If there is still residue, heat glue up with the high setting of your hair dryer. Wipe clean. For peskiest labels, spread peanut butter over glue. Scrub off with an abrasive sponge. Wipe clean.
