So you have decided that you are going to write your own blog. It is a great decision. However, you are now worried about how you are going to write it.

Writing your own blog is quite a simple process but there are some rules that you should follow. If you use this guide you will be well on your way to writing a great, informative, and interesting blog.

1. Write original content that gives the reader value. Having something interesting to say in your blog will stand you in good stead and help to differentiate your blog from the rest.

Brainstorm for interesting and original ideas. There is no substitute for originality. A good question to ask is 'How can I write about something that is beneficial to people?' If you have a step-by-step method for your readers to follow - all the better.

2. Write the way you speak. There is no need to be pedantic. Write clearly and concisely - the best examples of literature use plain English.

Don't use a long word where a short word will do. It reeks of insecurity and a lot of people will be put off by it.

3. 'To thy own self by true'. Follow your heart and be true to yourself and your blog's users. If you blog is reviewing and promoting a product, write an honest review of it.

Don't ever promote products that you have not tried and used. Don't ever promote something that you do

not stand by. Trying to make a quick buck will only cost you in the long run.

4. Try and find content that is timeless. Many blogs write about current issues that become obsolete in six months time. What may be current and cutting edge today may not be tomorrow.

Some good subjects that never go out of fashion are humour, sex, and everyday lives. This does not mean that you don't write about current issues. This would be foolish practice.

Try to achieve a balance. A smart solution would be to find an angle that incorporates an age old issue into a current issue. Try reading quality articles in newspapers to see how journalists do this.

5. Don't write content for search engines. Many people think that optimising their blogs for search engines will give their blogs a higher profile and consequently more traffic. This is a big mistake and it often puts people off from reading their blog. Writing content for search engines means that your writing style is altered and disturbed. Words that are repeated too often have an unpleasant ring when they are read.

Writing a blog is about finding out what works for you. If you follow this advice and implement some of these strategies writing good content for your blog should become easy. The more practice and experience you have of writing your blog, the better you will get, and the more traffic you will attract to your site. Good luck.
