Dinner sets are an important element in any dining situation, understandably without them eating would become a somewhat messy affair. For consumers choosing between the myriad of dinner sets available on the market however the decision making process must incorporate a number of different considerations; not least the colour and style of dining items.
One of the absolute classics when it comes to dinner sets is white. The power of a white plate should not be underestimated, the class it creates and the simple elegance it provides are hard to find with any other colour. The majority of restaurants utilise white dinner sets for a number of reasons. Firstly white plates, side plates, cups and saucers are useful because they can be easily replaced should any breakage happen. The other reason they are used by professionals is that white simply frames the food; it does not distract the diner and allows the food to take centre stage.
Other popular dinner sets are the fiesta ware range. This was first introduced to the mass market in the nineteen thirties and was introduced as a bold, colourful and fun alternative to the dinnerware of the previous century. As with many fashions the trend for fiesta ware grew once again, this time in the seventies. This trend continues today with the resurgence of kitsch and
retro dinnerware items.
For those who want to show pure opulence and style at their dinner parties one of the frequently used types of dinnerware is bone china. China is somewhat expensive and as such dinner sets made from this material are often heirloom pieces, passed down from generation to generation. Heirloom pieces can be great, although in many cases the sentimental value outweighs the practical value and they are resigned to a life in the cupboard.
Contemporary dinner sets are also growing in popularity. Seemingly these modern types incorporate elements of simplicity and boldness. For instance, jet black pieces have become popular, as they also act to accentuate the food. That is not to say that it is just simple colours that are now being used in the manufacturing of dinner sets, funky patterns and modern bold motifs are frequently used. As well as colours and patterns companies are now utilising different shapes, such as squares and triangles as a forward thinking way to move from the regular circular plates.
Hopefully this article has highlighted some of the more popular types of dinner set available to the consumer. Ultimately choosing dinnerware is a highly individual affair that requires the customer to match their purchase with their personality. If the right choice is made, perfect dining parties are only a step away.
