If you have been with your partner for a number of years you will understand what I mean when i say that the more you get to know them the less you understand them. How many times over the years have you celebrated your partners birthday by getting them what you thought would be the most wonderful present only for your partner to explain to you that you got it completely wrong in every way, shape and form. In situations like this when you think you could not be more right you probably will find that in reality you could not be more wrong.
That is the beauty of a close relationship; although you know the other person intimately you can never ever get to know them 100% as the human mind works in very mysterious ways. When you find yourself in this position what can you do to make it appear as though you knew exactly what your partner would want?
Present buying is always a hard task. Do you pick something that you are certain your partner craves only to get it wrong, do you ask your partner what they would like and appear even more like someone who does not understand their partner? Or do you just g with your intuition and try to find something that is nice and that your partner would like rather than something that they specifically need.
I have always found that things that people need they will tend to buy for themselves and things that they like are things that always go down best as a present. If you can find a gift that appears to be totally of the norm for what you would usually buy then even better still.
When gift buying it really is the thought that counts, if you know that someone wants something or they have specifically asked you for it then you have shown no thought in that purchase, just followed instructions.
Some of the nicest gifts received are those little unique ones that are generally items that you would look at in a shop window and think how nice they are without ever having any intention of buying. These are the unique items to buy a loved one. If you are thinking of buying a gift for a female partner and you know she likes jewelery then rather than going to a run of the mill jeweler why not try to seek out a bespoke jeweler who may be able to point out a unique piece of jewelery or even an antique piece that will be totally different from anything else someone may have. This may be a predictable gift in as much as it is a piece of jewelery but an antique piece of jewelery or a totally unique piece is a whole different ball game.
When looking for a unique gift for him why not look out for old sporting memorabilia from his favorite team or sport? These are readily available but can make a great gift as it is generally something that he would not buy for himself. Another unique gift for him maybe a bespoke item of dress jewelery such as a handmade set of cuff-links, again these are readily available but not on the scale of being mass produced.
So when the next gift giving time comes around and your partner is expecting the usually sort of gift make them realize that they should expect the unexpected from now on.
