Aging-you can't stop it, but you don't have to look aged. There are a lot of cosmetic procedures that can give your face a refreshed and more youthful look. The most effective, with long-lasting results, however, tend to be invasive surgical procedures. They also tend to be the most expensive solutions.

So, what can you do if you haven't budgeted for surgery yet but you want a quick fix to your aging problem? Juvederm is a fairly new injectable filler that was approved by the FDA in 2006 to correct lines and wrinkles.

There are actually three strength levels of juvederm, depending on the severity of your lines and wrinkles, which make it a great substitute for a face, eye, or brow lift. Level 18 is for the superficial lines around the eyes and mouth. Level 24 treats moderate lines and wrinkles particularly across the brow and level 30 is for severe deep wrinkles that form between the nose and cheeks.

With each level, the gel becomes thicker. It is made of hyaluronic acid, which is a gel-like sugar naturally occurring in the body. It adds volume to the skin which smoothes out lines and wrinkles. It is particularly effective around the nose and mouth. After injecting the dermal filler, there may be some tenderness afterwards, but regular activities can be resumed the same day.

As far as being cost effective, you could

spend $10,000 plus dollars on a surgical procedure to correct the signs of aging. Depending on the complexity of the problem, you could spend anywhere from $300 to $1,000 per syringe of juvederm. The results can last as long as nine months before you need another treatment.

This procedure can let you look your best while you save and budget for a more permanent solution to those pesky signs of aging. Of course, the prices differ from region to region and surgeon to surgeon. But by comparison, juvederm is a steal.

Just because this procedure consists of injecting the gel using a tiny needle, it doesn't mean that it comes without risk. There is a chance of having a reaction to the juvederm, though that is rare since the main ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is produced by the body. Discoloration is a small possibility as well. Of course, the risks are minimal compared to surgery.

Regardless of how slight and harmless the risks are, it is essential to have a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist to perform the procedure. Make sure he is trained in using this product.

You should be clear about the results you want to achieve. Discuss with him your ultimate plans for surgery and what you can do to prepare for that. As a temporary solution, this injectable filler is a great option for you and for your wallet.
