A simple question right? How do you market online? At any rate it is certainly not a question that causes much confusion.

It is amazing to think how people sometimes forget the principles of marketing. The thing about technology is that it can be so bright, dazzling and interesting to people. It changes so quickly and advances are made every day.

The internet represents the pinnacle of information and technology advances. Sometimes with all the focus on technology it can be easy to forget what marketing is all about. Whether it is internet marketing or simply off-line marketing there is just one simple strategy. Give people solutions to their problems.

That is what internet marketing is all about. People can be so focused on the technology that they can forget that internet marketing is about people. It isn't about technology, it isn't about traffic, it isn't about adwords, and it isn't about search engine optimisation. It is about people.

1. Find people who have a problem or a want. Everyone has problems and wants. Finding out the correct use of the word 'salubrious' is trying to find a solution to a problem.

Going online to check out how such and such a celebrity is doing after giving birth to their third child is a problem or want. Everybody is the same. We all have wants and we all have problems that we want to find the answer to.

2. Find out what people's specific problem or want is. Forums are a brilliant place to find out what people want.

A good place to start is to pick a topic that you have



some experience of or a subject that you have an interest in. You may as well have some fun in the process.

3. Once you have found out what that problem is, see if there is enough demand for a solution. A good way to do this is to write an Ebook on the problem and give it away for free but ask for feedback.

Advertise it on forums or simply run an adwords campaign. If you get a good response you are on to a winner if you get hardly anything that means you have found something that people don't really care about.

4. Once you have got interest. Find the solution to the questions raised by your readers. Sometimes your feedback may contain the solution to the problem.

5. The final step is to market your product to people who want it.

One of the biggest mistakes people in internet marketing commit is that they think they know what people want. The truth is that no one knows what people want. Even people who want something may not know what they truly want. Marketing is about finding a demand for something and simply selling it.

Just in case you're curious 'salubrious' means healthy not what most people think - it does not mean wealthy or rich. Don't just assume what something means - test and research it. Market research is often the difference between launching a million dollar product and launching a flop which costs you money. Go and find out people's wants and give it to them. Do this and you will be a successful Internet Marketer.
