Buying a computer can be a big undertaking, especially for the tech novices. Some may have some idea of what to buy and what models to look at, but for the first time buyer, this can be a daunting task. With the many choices of brands, models and features available, how do you which one is best? While some advise to get the best computer, this answer is neither helpful nor is concrete, and in reality really means nothing to the computer shopper.

Computer Buying Tips:

1. What Will the Computer Be Used For - The most important consideration is what the computer will be used for. If you are going to primarily do some Internet surfing, email and some basic word processing at home, then a very basic model with basic features is all you need.

But, if you want to use the computer for entertainment, gaming or you plan to store lots of music file, then you will need lots of RAM, good graphics card and a large hard disk storage space, as well as a high-end processor, such as the Intel Core 2 Duo.

If you are a video or digital enthusiast you will need to have a high-end system that can handle the large video and picture editing software that you will likely be using.

2. Decide on a budget. When we shop it is easy to get carried away with the latest and greatest. But, often the most

expensive computers include features that you may not need and so you will be paying for nothing. Stick with your budget and avoid regrets later.

3. Buy a system that includes all peripherals. Every computer can be broken down into four components: CPU unit, monitor, keyboard, and mouse. It is best to buy a complete system with all the above included, it saves money and when you take it home assembly is much easier.

4. Get the largest monitor you can afford. This is one area that is important enough to spend some extra cash. Larger monitors are easier to use, are better on the eyes and if you plan to spend some serious time on the computer will make it much more enjoyable, believe me, when it comes to computer monitors, bigger is better.

5. Find a great deal online. If you compare retail versus online prices you will be amazed at the savings offered online. In fact, you can get more of the important features such as, fastest processor, the fastest modem, the biggest memory, and the biggest hard drive for the same price that you could get a basic system shopping retail.

While some are concerned with the safety of buying online, in reality, thousands of people buy everything online from electronics to even cars, so it is very safe, especially when you shop for well known sites where you can read customer feedback and ratings of sellers.
