Do Not Sell Cars, Swap Them

When you are in the process of purchasing a new car, the most obvious and traditional way of removing your old car, assuming it is no longer needed, is to sell it. Whether it is a private sale to a private buyer, through a car auction where it is guaranteed to sell, but often at a lower price than anticipated, or to the dealership you are buying your new car from, as part of a part exchange, selling your old car is what is commonly done when purchasing a new car.

However, there has been somewhat of a boom in a different way of changing cars lately, particularly in recent months in the current economic climate, which is swapping them.

The process of swapping cars is actually much more straightforward than one may first assume. In the normal process of selling a car, the car has to be put up for sale at a certain price, advertised and then interested parties contact the seller. From here, there is often some haggling that takes place between the buyer and the seller and the buyer and once a price is decided upon, the cash is handed over and all relevant and appropriate paperwork is signed over to the new owner of the car.

The way swapping a car works however, is slightly different. The normal selling procedure takes place and the car is advertised, but rather than a cash price being requested, the seller states the type of car they are looking to swap their car

for.

In essence, it sounds like something from the school yard, two children swapping their toy cars, but it does in fact work. Swapping cars has actually become so popular that there have been several websites set up to take advantage of this.

Although an easy process in general, one of the most difficult things with swapping your car for another is choosing exactly which car you would like to receive in return. One of the main reasons people swap their cars is that they want an upgrade for a certain reason. For example, they may have added to their family and need a larger car to suit their growing family. In any case, it is important to decide on a car that both meets your requirements and is appropriate in price. Sellers, or swappers, should bear in mind though that if their car is worth a great deal more or less than the car they are looking for, it is more than acceptable to put forward or request additional items, including cash, to make the swap financially viable.

Of course, there are no rules set, either offline or online, that state a car has to be swapped for a car. There have been several examples of cars being swapped for other items, such as computers and furniture, which work out fantastically, especially for young drivers who do not have a great deal of money to pay for a car outright, but have lots of items that they could willingly swap.
