It is an extremely easy process to purchase a brand new car. Potential owners simply head down to their local dealership and choose the car they want. However, for used cars, the process can be slightly more complicated and it can be difficult simply finding a place to buy a quality used car. Although there are many different places to buy used cars, the following four places are the most common.
Dealership. Buying a used car from a dealership can be one of the easiest ways to purchase a used car. The cars are maintained, checked over by a qualified mechanic and cleaned to showroom standard. Most will come with some form of guarantee to provide extra piece of mind after the car has been purchased and the majority of the time, no problems occur at all. However, as with most things in life, there are a few disreputable garages and because of this, it is always best to try and visit used car garages that have been recommended by friends or family.
Friend. It may seem like the ideal scenario, purchasing a car off of a friend. Unfortunately, it very rarely works out as idyllic as both parties would like, for a variety of reasons. For example, when one friend has decided to sell a car and the other has decided to buy it, choosing a price can be difficult. The buyer will be expecting a reduction because they are friends, but will not want to push this; whilst the seller will want to receive as much money for their car as possible, but will know that they
are generally expected to lower the price because of selling to a friend.
Furthermore, even after the sale has been finalised, should any problems ever occur with the car, there is chance that the buyer will often blame the friend for selling them a broken car.
Whilst purchasing a car off of a friend can be a fantastic way to buy a used vehicle, it should only be done with the utmost caution, as to ensure no friendship is ruined.
Offline Auctions. Attending an auction can often be too daunting for some, as many people believe they are at risk of bidding for an item they do not want simply by nodding at the wrong time. This is simply untrue and once this thought has been got rid of, attention should be turned to the fantastic used car deals that can be found at offline auctions.
Although anyone can sell a car at an auction, the reason so many bargains are to be had is that car dealerships generally take the cars they receive as part exchanges to these auctions with the aim of receiving whatever money they can, often resulting in the vehicles selling for a fraction of their true value
Internet Auction Websites. Although they follow the same general format of offline auctions, internet auction websites do not sell cars mainly from dealerships, but mostly from private sellers. As with most things internet related, caution should be taken when purchasing a used a car from an internet auction website and if possible, the car should be viewed and test driven first, with cash being handed over in person once the auction has ended.
