The savvy shopper knows that not all patio furniture was created equal. Flimsy plastic furniture of yore cannot hold a candle to today's durable and attractive resin chairs. Poly resin plastics are synthetic chairs made out of a plastic and resin compound. As a manmade material, plastics will never run out, and factories can easily replicate thousands of the exact same designs. But aside from that, just why has the resin chair skyrocketed in popularity in just the past few decades? The answers are many.
They are lightweight
Mobility is more of an issue with outdoor than indoor furniture. People more often find themselves moving their seats around to accommodate the sun, shade, and chairs are also taken to such places as the park or the beach. Wrought iron and wooden chairs can be cumbersome and heavy, great if you don't plan on moving your furniture around, a hassle if you do. Resin chairs, on the other hand are constructed out of a lightweight polymer that's a fraction as heavy as other materials.
They are easy to clean
Like any other plastic product, resin chairs are waterproof and smooth, so cleaning requires usually no more than a rag or a hose. However, the plastic is somewhat porous, so stains should be wiped off as soon as they are noticed.
They are easy to paint
Resin chairs are some of the easiest furniture to paint. Wood and metal require sanding, cleaning and priming before you can even get to the painting part. But resin only requires a dry surface and
some latex spray paint. Specially formulated spray paints work well to adhere to the plastic surface, and they're easier to apply than traditional paint and paintbrush.
They are versatile
Plastic is like the chameleon of the furniture world in that it can be molded and shaped to emulate other materials, like wood or concrete, in look and texture. In this way, you can still capture the essence and traditional look of natural materials, with the ease and convenient maintenance afforded by plastic.
They are colorful
Resin chairs come in all colors of the rainbow and almost as many patterns. The coloration is actually part of the plastic so it goes entirely through the material, meaning there won't be any color loss from peeling or chipping paint.
They are cheap
Another big draw of resin chairs and furniture in general is its price. Plastics in general are cheap because of their availability, and low cost of creating the material and manufacturing it. Plastic can sometimes cost about half as much as wood and metal chairs, and even though you may have to replace your furniture a little more often, you're paying less overall and you have the benefit of picking out new stuff every few years.
They are waterproof
Moisture in its many forms often means the premature aging and discoloration of outdoor furniture. In wood, excessive moisture can lead to peeling paint, warped or rotted wood, and even a black mold buildup. In metal, moisture leads to oxidation, aka rust. Resin chairs, however, are impervious to damage in this respect.
