There are a lot of different options that you will be presented with when you place an order with a Boston delivery company. These different options are presented by the company because they realize that different companies prefer to do business in different ways, and by presenting a lot of different options they help to make paying for shipping convenient for as many of their customers as possible. Most companies prefer to pay for shipping via either credit card, or by being billed to their account with the company which they may pay every month via company check. This is the typical way of doing business for a bigger company, but there are also methods which cater to smaller business such as paying via PayPal online, a payment method used by many startups and home based business for the majority of their business. Then, there is also the option of COD which stands for either cash on delivery, or collect on delivery. This means that you pay for the order when it arrives, typically by certified check or money order; cash isn't usually accepted.
Collect on delivery doesn't always just mean paying for the shipping when the cargo arrives; it
also means that the person taking receipt of the shipment will also be paying for the goods that they are receiving to the person who delivers those goods to them. This is more complicated than when a courier simply takes a pre-paid for package to a destination and drops it off, and so you may have to look for a courier which specifically offers this type of service if you want to serve your customers with a COD option for their orders.
It may take some time and shopping around to find a courier that will make COD deliveries for you and you will certainly have to become an account holder with the company, but this can be a useful strategy, especially for a company just starting out or who is trying to build market share. That is because offering a COD option shows your customers that you have faith in their ability to pay, and that you take them on their word to make good on what they owe you when you ship them their products. Trust is harder to find in today's marketplace, and extending this to your customers can make people more likely to purchase from you.
