Three Things New Motorcycle Riders Have To Remember

Passing your motorcycle test can be one of the most joyous times in your life. By successfully completing the test, you are effectively given the freedom to ride anywhere you wish in the world.

Due to the excitement that is apparent throughout this time, it is very easy to forget certain aspects or factors that are related to riding a motorcycle and therefore to ensure that the most problem free riding experience is to be had, the following three points should be understood and adhered to continually.

Appropriate Clothing. When you first head out onto the open road, it can often be tempting to throw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and head out to the horizon with the wind blowing through your hair. This happens in the movies, so why can it not happen in real life?

Although this scenario is very tempting, the reality is completely different and in truth, part of it is illegal. Movie stars may give the impression that this is the way to ride, but they are also likely to be using a stunt double with dozens of security and safety measures in place.

Riding a motorcycle on a public road without a helmet is not only massively dangerous, but it is also illegal as UK law states that all motorcycle riders must wear a suitable and appropriate helmet at all times when riding on public road.

In addition, the wearing of a full set of leathers, gloves and boots can prevent some very painful injuries happening and whilst they are not a legal requirement,

they are highly recommended.

Motorcycle Insurance. Similar to a motorcycle helmet, motorcycle insurance is a legal requirement by UK law and it is an offence to ride a motorcycle off private land without any form of motorcycle insurance in place.

Purchasing motorcycle insurance can be costly for new and inexperienced riders and it can cause a lot of headaches when looking for a suitable and affordable insurance premium. The most important point to remember is not to ride your motorcycle on the road without insurance and be patient, as there will be an insurance premium suitable to your budget but it may just take longer and involve more work to find it.

Be A Safe Rider. The first few years of riding a motorcycle are often the most costly, particularly in terms of insurance. By being a safe rider, such as by not receiving any penalty points on your license, not being the cause of any accidents and therefore accruing a substantial No Claims Bonus, the benefits can be endless. Not only will you be safe and gain a lot of knowledge and experience on safe riding techniques, but you will also benefit from reduced motorcycle insurance premiums as insurance companies will consider you to be of a low risk.

Safe riding should be something that is always adhered to, but for many riders, it is all too tempting to show off by carrying out dangerous stunts or manoeuvres. It is important that no unsafe manoeuvres are carried out on a public road and safe riding is practiced at all times.
