Bike insurance provides coverage for accidents or damages that may occur whilst driving a bike. When searching for bike insurance, many factors can contribute to how high or low the premium will be. Therefore, it is often useful to look around and find the best deal to suit the individual.

When looking at bike insurance, the age and experience of the rider can play an important role in how much they are going to be paying. For those who have just passed their test and have had little experience of riding a bike, they will be seen as more of a high risk in terms of accidents and damages to the vehicle. Furthermore, for those who are young and have only just passed their test, they will be seen as an even higher risk as young people statistically are more likely to be in accident. However, this can be reduced slightly by taking part in a specialised bike training programme after passing their test. This way, it shows the insurance company that they have been given further training and experience on how to use the bike, which as a result lowers the risk of having an accident.

The age of the vehicle and whether it has been modified will also affect the bike insurance, as bikes that are new or have been fully modified with the latest equipment are more attractive to steal rather than ones that are old. However, insurance premiums will be lower if the bike is kept in a secure garage or lock up rather

than on the road.

With all motor vehicles, there are laws in place which should be followed in order to make driving safe. However, if these laws have been broken, it can affect a drivers record and as a result increase their insurance premium. The most common offence committed by those on a bike is speeding, due to the powerful engine that they have and the temptation and ease to exceed the speed limit. If someone has been caught speeding, they are often fined and have points put on their license, which will have to be shown to the insurance company. This is also the case for any accidents that have occurred whilst driving the bike and therefore must be told to the insurance company. Non-disclosure about any of these points can result in a claim being rejected or the entire policy being void.

Although bike insurance is something which can work out expensive, it is something which is required by law and is therefore unavoidable. The aim of bike insurance is to protect the owner from financial loss due to an accident, theft or damage to the vehicle and is therefore something which is valuable to have. However, by proving to an insurance company that an individual is a safe and careful driver who securely protects and looks after their bike will mean that their insurance premium will be lower. Therefore, it is always highly recommended to look at the different insurance companies available and search for the one which will give the best deal.
