When searching for bike insurance, there are many possible options available to suit the individual and their needs; therefore time must be spent ensuring that all have been looked at in order to find the best option.

The three main types of bike insurance someone must choose from are fully comprehensive, third party, fire and theft and third party only. All three are different and must be thoroughly researched before committing yourself to one of them.

The most basic type of cover for a bike is third party only and it is often the best option for those on a tight budget. This is because the policy holder is only covered for the most minimum requirement by law. Third party means that if the policy holder was involved in an accident with another individual, whether in a vehicle or not, then the insurance will pay for any damage done to the other persons involved and their vehicles. However, any damage carried out to the policy holders car will mean that they will have to pay for it themselves and not claim through their insurance company.

Third party, fire and theft is considered to be in the middle with regards to the type of cover insurance companies offer someone. This type of cover includes what is covered in third party, however, they also cover the policy holder for any loss or damage done to the car through a fire or if it has been stolen. As this has slightly more to offer in terms

of cover, it is also more expensive than the third party only option.

The more common type of insurance is fully comprehensive cover and this is more likely to be the most expensive option as it has the most features in terms of insurance policies. Fully comprehensive includes the features which third party only and third party, fire and theft have but also covers the policy holder and their bike if they were involved in an accident. Whereas the other two types of insurance cover other people who may have been involved in the accident, fully comprehensive covers the cost of any work which needs to be carried out to the bike and generally includes cover for the driver if they are injured.

Although people sometimes believe that third party only is the best option as it is the cheapest, this is often not always the best option. If the bike in question is top of the range and worth a lot of money, then it is not covered for any damages that may arise in the unfortunate event of an accident. Also, it does not cover the policy holder if the bike was stolen or set on fire and as a result may be more expensive in the long run. Therefore, it is important to remember that the level of your bike insurance must be determined by how much the overall bike is worth as overall it may be more beneficial financially to choose an insurance level that includes more features.
