Many car manufacturers have been offering all kinds of incentives to entice buyers to a market that had slowed down considerably not thanks to the credit crunch, but even with many very good offers and discounts available on brand new cars, the best value still remains in the used car market.
Many car makes and models will always be sought after, for example, a used BMW, Mercedes, MINI or Audi will generally depreciate much slower than many other models simply because resale of these makes of car offer few problems.
Premium brands are at the forefront of the industry simply because of their design, engineering and driving experience - you will rarely have any problems selling a used BMW, unless of course there is something detrimentally wrong with the car or you over price it.
The Government Scrappage Scheme has met its objective in giving the car industry the kick start it so badly needed but in terms of value, even a 2,000 pounds discount, on the face of it may look good, but as we know a brand new car loses value as soon as you drive it out of the showroom or off the forecourt.
So if you're looking to upgrade your car but want
to buy something that won't lose value, you're better off looking at a used BMW or used Mercedes, simply as you won't lose as much as you would on other brands, plus you can rest assured in the knowledge that when you come to sell the vehicle, you won't have to wait for months on end or drop the price of the car just to shift it.
German manufacturers often finish near or on top of reliability league tables also, which is always a significant factor that car buyers take into account when looking to purchase a used car, as you don't want to buy a car only for it to end up in the garage months down the line, because of the extra money that you'll have to pay out as well as it being an inconvenience.
And during the current economic climate, where people are still being very conscious about what they do with their money, buyers will steer clear of those car makes that have a reputation for being unreliable. So for the best value on the car market, you'll do well to find better value than that had in German cars, particularly with a used BMW, Mercedes, MINI or Audi.
