Here is a good idea. We should have a baby sling with a witty sign on the front of it; something that gets the attention of everyone so that people do not run into us when we are walking or jogging. We seem to think this works for other things, like driving.
It is interesting how some trends make comebacks. Take the baby on board signs for example. In the middle to late 80s it seemed every car with a baby had that sign. Now the sign has returned beginning in 2008, and with vigor! We see cars everywhere with these signs. Does that actually make people think twice when they are driving near one of these vehicles? Do drivers ignore the sign and continue to plow on past the car?
Some people have stated that this bothers them more than anything. We should be careful no matter who is in the car. Having a baby on board does not make them drive any more careful. What is always pretty strange is when there is a car like that with one of those signs and the driver is talking on the cell phone, or driving recklessly. It was noted that
some mothers were actually carrying their baby in a baby sling while they were driving! Maybe there should be a law that if you drive recklessly and have one of these signs, you get an extra ticket.
It seems these signs are better off on the back of the mother with a baby in a baby sling wrapped around her. That is much more personal and embarrassing; as it should be. It is one thing to be overprotective, but do you think this sign crosses over to the side beyond reason? I would like to see a sign on a baby carrier that says parent on board, or overprotective parent making sure you know that there is a baby here. That would actually be a good idea. We should have baby slings with different signs on them for laughs. Signs like; I am with stupid.
It just does not seem all that effective to have one of these signs on a car, van, or a baby sling. I think we should all just drive safer and watch where we are going. Let us all put down our cell phones and other distractions inside the car and focus on the task at hand.
