When you're shipping large orders of cargo or are moving oversized goods of various kinds, one option that might be brought up to you by someone from your courier company is that of using a Gooseneck trailer. Of course, if you've never rented a gooseneck from your Kansas City courier service before, you might have no idea what they are talking about and not be sure exactly what the trailer is, or why you might need it. These trailers typically attach on to the back of a truck, and are used for carrying large or particularly heavy cargo loads.

Gooseneck trailers are usually used for hauling specialty cargo of various kinds, such as livestock trailers which attach to a truck with a gooseneck attachment, and aren't used for a lot of regular courier shipments. The time when they are often recommended is when someone wants a vehicle dedicated to hauling only their goods, rather than shipping LTL where they would have to share delivery time with many other shippers, but doesn't want to pay for the expense of renting a full sized semi trailer. In those very specific shipping situations a gooseneck can provide a nice middle ground in terms of shipping capacity.

One

thing that it is important to realize about gooseneck trailers is that they come in a variety of different types which are designed to work with certain kinds of trucks. This is much more important than you might realize if you're doing business with a company that rents these trailers and allows you to hook them up to your own vehicle to haul your goods, because in these situations it is going to be very important that you get the right trailer for your vehicle. Be sure to inform the person you are speaking with at the courier company as to what kind of vehicle that you are hauling the trailer with.

These trailers are often used by people who are planning on using a regular truck to delivery something but either need an enclosed space rather than the open truck bed, or a slightly wider or longer storage space than is available to them in the truck bed. They're rather a specialty use item for shipping, but it's good to realize that they are there as an option and are worth inquiring about with your shipping company if you're trying to find the solution and haven't found one that quite fits yet.
