Liposuction is the procedure of removing fat from various parts of the body, most commonly from the abdomen, thighs and buttocks. This is done via a tube (cannula) and a suction device (aspirator).
A saline fluid is generally injected into the area of fat to be removed. This loosens the fat cells, which can then be suctioned out.
In 2006, the Food and Drug Administration approved the laser technique, which is now the method preferred by most cosmetic surgeons.
As with any cosmetic surgery, you need to be in good physical health, abstain from blood-thinning medications such as aspirin and also from nicotine for a prolonged period of time prior to the surgery for either type of liposuction.

When considering liposuction for specific areas of your body, you need to keep in mind that certain areas are less successfully treated than others. Arms, inner thighs and face are not as well improved as are the abdomen and outer thighs. Be sure to discuss every aspect with your surgeon.
You also need to count on a few hours of observation in the clinic immediately after the surgery to assure your safe recovery. As it is common to experience dizziness for a while with common activities such as going to the bathroom, getting dressed, etc., it is also advisable to have a friend or relative nearby at home for a few days.
Results may not be favorably visible for several months. Liposuction is not an instant cure for unsightly fat in body parts, and you need to be prepared for patience.
Reviewing before and after photos of clients and talking with clients who have had the procedure done would definitely be a good option to put your mind at ease and to help adjust your expectations for the beautiful person you want to be.
Generally, this procedure can be done on an outpatient basis. It is, however, advisable to have someone drive you home. Anticipated recovery time is a few days to two weeks.
