Golf strength training is designed to increase your balance and flexibility - a side effect of this type of training is that experts say it could extend your life span; so you could still be playing golf well into your seventies or even your eighties.

Golf strength training is designed to keep you flexible and improve your endurance and strength, as golf is a much more strenuous game than most non-golfers believe. Golf strength training cannot halt the things that come with increasing age but it can certainly slow them down. It has certainly been proved that regular exercise is necessary to anyone wanting to attain optimum health as it increases your muscle strength and greatly improves blood circulation. Many of the troubles of old age are a result of poor circulation, blood pressure and heart disease are all linked to this and that means that any improvement must be worth looking into.

Golf strength training is designed to specifically increase your performance at golf and to improve those physical attributes that are necessary for you to play the game - but that is not to say that this kind of training should only be undertaken by those who play golf. As a person gets older they tend to lose flexibility in their mid section and yet this is of great importance when it comes to generating the strength and power that is needed to make a golf swing.

Golf strength training uses dumb bells but it should not be confused with body building. You are not training to get bigger muscles, but stronger muscles and increased flexibility. Because flexibility is vital if a person is to play golf well then stretching and bending exercises are a significant component of golf strength training. Unlike body building you are not looking to lifting heavier and heavier weights but using one set of weights to help you perform a certain set of exercises.

Strengthening exercises for golfers often center around the core, which is the area of the body that lies between the chest and the hips - that is because it is from this core that the power to swing is derived. The core region drives most of the movement that you undertake and especially the movements involved in golf. This area is responsible for balance, stability, and the development of bodily power, which is especially relevant to the golf swing. Golf strengthening exercises that concentrate on the core help to restore the balance that should exist between all the muscles in the body.
