A Good Home Inspection Can Save Your Home From Water Damage

A most common, devastating, and maybe costly things to fix in a dwelling could be water damage. Something as horrendous as water surges because of Mother Nature, broken water lines, even many of those annoying little pipe leaks might make in damage in a house. Occasionally water coming from any area may create damage to other spots and things in a living space.

A busted water line or a little hidden drip in your bathroom could have enough drip to cause weakness to the floor in a bathroom and maybe a wall too. This can ruin baseboards, tiles, carpet, or anything that can absorb water. This is only one destructive thing water will cause. It could be days or weeks to fix and can cost a lot to take care of the damage.

Even though a lot of water hazards, like a flood from unforeseen weather are not ever preventable, there are other examples of water situations in a dwelling place that may depend upon using preventative measures.

The best way to reduce the risk of water hazards from ever developing, is through well thought out investigations of specific areas in your living space, precisely, sources of where you find water. Using the time to complete this job should make you really grateful you did. It is the best way to ensure that there can be no major or small unexpected water problems just waiting to happen.

You can start by creating a list of all places that water comes into and makes its way out of your home, including the basement and roof. If there is not a basement, the crawlspace underneath your home is a likely spot for water problems. When your list is done, start at the top of your home, then the attic, and make your way down.

In the attic, you should look for dark or damp spots in the beams, ceiling, walls floor, and in the insulation. Many times there will be a wet musty odor when there has been wetness present for very long. The most convenient time to inspect an attic is during rain so you may possibly see water seepage while it is going on.

Inside the living space of a house, look at all pipe connections and inspect for implications where water has dripped and has went away or is present. This means bath tubs, showers, below bathroom and kitchen sinks, and dishwashers. Also include the water connections and drainage hose on the washing machine, the water line to the refrigerator, if it has one, and the hot water tank lines.

Below a home you may use a flashlight or flood light if there is no lighting under there. Inspect pipes that might be leaking or spewing on any thing wood. This can make some quite expensive structural hazards. Last, but not least, is probably exterior hose connections and sprinkler systems. Do each repair as soon as you can.
