It is not all houses that are lucky enough to come with a basement. They are a much used feature, but not in every home. Some dwellings are less fortunate if they have that unused, dirt floored cave we commonly know as a crawl space.
In a lot of homes it can be quite low and more often than not, you have to belly crawl when under there. Occasionally these crawl spaces are set up with lights, but in some older buildings they may not have them.
Individuals might be curious why you would ever find it necessary to get in there at all, but there are quite a lot of explanations. Something might occur when you need know if there could be standing water under there. This is a more annoying problem than you think, especially with aged living spaces whose foundations will possibly not be as waterproof as they once were.
There are vents that should be installed in the vicinity of the base of a foundation that should automatically open and close to help moisture under your building to dry out. Aged living spaces normally do not have these modern vents, but you could probably get that kind.
They are not that costly and are not difficult to add to a home. When there is frequently a great deal of moisture or standing water under the living space, it will cause the wood work to start rotting and cause structural devastation. This can be the first reason to look under there.
The second situation is just as serious as the other one. Leaking water lines is also something that can allow water to stand under the residence. Your main water line makes it way into your house from here.
In homes with older plumbing, rust spots and leaking areas can happen more frequently. Even with new plumbing, leaks may show up if the water lines were put in shoddily or inaccurately.
Anytime any amount of water is dripping or spraying and connecting with wood, there is potential for water damage and it may happen more rapidly and with a lesser amount of water than a person might imagine. Under the residence is also where the outside water spigots and the beginning of your sewer pipes are at.
The faucets may not make much of a hazard, but a damaged sewer line coming out of a home certainly might be. It may make a horribly nasty, unsanitary, and extremely nauseating situation quickly.
Any water problem under any residence must be repaired as quickly as it can be. You can not imagine it is really hurting anything when there is water in there, but it may be destroying a lot more than you know.
