The freight class is a very important figure when it comes to how a courier company will calculate your invoice. A Cleveland courier service will always use the freight class as part of the formula that helps them to figure out what the final charge on your shipment is going to be. There are several different numbers that are used in addition to that freight class, and several which are used to calculate it.

When a company is calculating your final cost of shipping, the distance you are shipping the package is the primary figure other than the freight class. The other adjustments will mostly be surcharges, such as for any extra services you required (like storage). There will also be all of the applicable taxes and duties that they are required to charge added on to your shipment after the freight class and distance are used in their invoicing formula.

A freight class is a classification of how many resources are going to be required in order to move your shipment. Those resources include fuel, space in courier vehicles, and manpower. The primary figures that are used to calculate the freight class of your shipment are going to be how heavy it is, and

how large it is. However, any special requirements of your shipment can cause the freight class to be adjusted. This includes things like very heavy shipments, or those which need to be shipped under specialized conditions.

Many are confused as to why both the size and the weight of the package are used in the calculation of the freight class. The reason is that all vehicles only have a finite amount of space, which is why size is important. All vehicles also have weight limits imposed on how much they can carry, which is why the weight of the shipment is important. The weight of a vehicle also has a large affect on how much fuel is required to run the vehicle, also an important reason to consider the weight.

The adjustments made to freight class are basically made on a basis of how difficult the process is going to be for shipping your cargo. That means that any time that extra people are needed to help load or unload it, your rate will go up. It will go up as well if you need a special kind of trailer to move your goods. This might include a flat deck trailer, or a refrigerated unit.
