Sometimes there are situations involving shipping with a courier company that come up seldom enough that even an experienced shipper might not know exactly what the answer was. A good example of this situation is when you have complicated billing requests. So, if you want your New York courier service to bill your shipment to a third party, is this something that you're going to be allowed to do?

This is something that depends entirely on the discretion of the courier company that you are shipping with. The first thing to realize is that this means that, yes; this type of situation is possible. There is no blanket policy among courier companies that would forbid this practice. However, there is a strong possibility that many companies will not allow this to happen because of their own individual policies.

When companies do allow this, and they do, there is usually a specific set of circumstances that they have to have met before they will allow you to do so. First of all, they will definitely require that you are an account holder with their company. They aren't going to allow a non-account holder to bill to a third party because of the risk they

stand if there is any kind of a conflict or argument about the billing.

Next, most couriers will also only bill your shipment to someone that also has an account with them. This is a risk minimizing measure for the courier company. It can also help to make this happen with your courier if you have a strong written agreement between yourself and the third party you wish to bill the shipping to present to the courier company.

Some courier companies might allow a situation that is similar to this in a COD shipping situation. This is where a courier company is going to deliver your goods to your customer, and collect both the fee for the shipping and the price of your package at the same time. This is something that not all couriers offer, but if they do, this is one way to arrange for a billing situation where a third party will pay for your billing. You will also need strongly established credit with your courier for this option. That is because anyone has the legal right to refuse to take delivery of any package which is shipped to them COD, something you always need to be aware of.
