Have you ever rode past a very attractive home and then saw what bad state the driveway was in? The one thing worse than discovering someone else's another house's driveway looking like this, is if it is your home's driveway that is like this. It has been proved that when you decide to place your residence on the market to sell, a faulty driveway could be a handicap. It might be one of the first things that a person will notice when they drive up to the house.

When you are lucky and have a driveway that is in very good repair, according to where you live it might not continue to be that way. People who live in places that have hard winters or more than average rainfall can have the most severe driveway dilemmas.

There are a number of precautions that could help prevent your driveway from cracking, chipping, and coming apart. Reseal a driveway before cracks start beginning or when the dark black color starts to become lighter. As soon as the cracks are there, water can get into and underneath the driveway surface. If it freezes, it will expand and cause additional cracking. Resealing the asphalt driveway is a necessary job, but might be a task you may be able to do yourself.

If a driveway does have cracks already, this is what you should do. If possible, clear out the base of the crack so it becomes wider at the bottom of it than at the top. If you have deep cracks, you possibly need to put in sand or backer rod crack filler first. Backer rod is moisture withstanding crack filler. Fill up the opening to within half inch of the top of the surface. Now you are prepared to use regular crack filler. These fillers can be bought in a liquid form that you can pour into the openings or you can buy a tube that contains a denser solution that can be put in with a caulking gun. After the filler is put in, use a piece of wood or trowel to smooth over the surface.

Choose a time when you will have a few dry days when you start the resealing task. Clean the driveway all over with an asphalt cleaning solution. This special solution will get up oil spills that could sooner or later induce soft spots because of its petroleum content. Allow it to dry completely. The items you will want to apply the sealer you have purchased are just like the ones you use for rolling on paint.

A lengthy roller handle and a long nap roller sleeve can work good or you can use a large squeegee. A good paint brush might be used to seal areas that are hard to reach conveniently, like the curbs. Make sure to seal all spots entirely and always follow the instructions to the letter. This should keep your driveway safe from cracking and water destruction for as long as implied by the products you picked.
