In today's economy especially, a lot of people are looking for work or for workers. And of those people, a lot are looking online to fulfill their needs. And it is possible to do so, however there are loads of scams as well making it that much harder to find "real" work or workers that really fulfill what they said they were going to do.
There are many services online that offer work at home offers, make money now, get rich quick, etc., etc. offers. Not only can you find these anywhere but you can almost expect each of them to be a scam. Just remember, all those offers associated with Google, ebay and many of the other big name companies that you see banner ads for all over are not really sponsored by the big name company - read the fine print and you'll see.
So, with that in mind, I'd like to take a few moments to discuss one legitimate service online that does exactly what it says it will do - it offers workers and business people alike the opportunity to have their needs fulfilled without the risk of a scam. You won't get rich but you can make extra spending money to use as you'd like.
Have you heard of a service called MTurk? Not many people have surprisingly enough. People all over the world need opportunities to make extra cash - in fact I'm sure you probably know of several right off the top of your head. In this article I will introduce you to one service that actually allows you the opportunity to really make money online - and best of all, it's not a scam!
This business is owned by Amazon and is called Mturk. Mturk basically provides workers with something called "hits". HITs stands for "Human Intelligence TaskS". When you look at work and the process of work objectively, you realize that your work day is broken down into the time you prepare your work and the time you actually do it. What a HIT does is essentially prepare the work, and it is ready for the worker to do. So essentially, all work is broken down by the requester into pieces for the worker.
When you go after work you need to look at how you work to decide which type is best for you. If you are a writer, and can generate content, edit, or spin content, then choose the first type of hit. If you are more into repetitive or research work, use the "accept the next hit automatically" button and choose that kind of job.
The value of any job is the amount it pays times the number of hits you do. If
a job, for example, has 9028 hits, and some do, but only pays a penny per HIT, that is still a $90.28 job. Usually, you'll be sharing a HIT with other workers, but if you work consistently you can gain several dollars off a HIT like that by workday's end.
HITS are really things computers cannot do (at least not yet) so they are ironically referred to as Artificial Artificial Intelligence. Mturk provides a worker with basically two kinds of assignments. One kind is where content is wanted, or extra thinking on a problem, and these usually pay more than 10 cents per hit. The second kind is more repetitive work, and there may be many hits on a job, each paying upwards from one cent.
It is a good idea when you are doing mTurk work to figure out how much per month you'd like to earn. Divide that back by the number of days in a month you plan to work and you'll have the total per day you need to make. From there, you can decide where to set your limits on amounts paid per HIT. Since I am a writer/editor, for example, I will split my HITS, if possible, between writing a few original essays, and then doing repetitive work that uses my skill set in language and editing.
In particular, lets say my goal is to make $100/mo. through mTurking, or roughly $3.30 per working day. Often, I will make more depending on what HITs are available. I use the search criteria to find HITs I want to do. After a while you will see how various HITs are titled and can use keywords or money amounts to pull up which HITs you might want to accept.
Also, keep in mind that HITs can be sorted by the drop-down menu in various ways, by most expensive for example, or by greatest number. The important part of mTurking is to be consistent with it and to get good feedback from the requesters. It is important to point out that many do give bonuses to good workers.
Mturking is new to the work place, but I think we will see more and more of this kind of work become available in the future, as basically it is a "crowd function", that is, people will cluster to do it provided the engines are available. By engines I not only mean the Amazon mTurk engine, but payment engines like PayPal or Amazon Payments. This really is a global phenomenon, and part of the push to reduce overhead for service and knowledge work by having work done at home - 24/7/365 - making Mturk the work choice of the future, today.
