If you are one of many penniless coaches, chances are you have gotten in your own way along the way. What this really means is that either with your inner beliefs, your procrastination or your lack of follow through, you have hindered your own success. Being penniless is not necessary, but being successful is also not guaranteed. In order to build a successful coaching business there are several keys.
One of the keys to success is to figure out how you are stopping your own success. The myth is that because we are coaches and we work with people on these very issues we DON'T get in our own way. But, the reality is that we are human and we do. Most coaches have the same inner dialogue going on that the rest of the population has. We are no different. But, we do have more tools in our toolbox.
Today is a great day to really step out of your own way and rise above the many business coaches that are failing. By taking charge of yourself and your business, you can put yourself on the road to success.
Business success takes commitment, risk, and courage. You have to have the passion to follow through and follow up with your prospects, the commitment to serve with outstanding service and be willing to risk and step out of your own way. That takes the most courage, risk and commitment, because you are moving into new territory, out of your comfort zone.
Take a moment and reflect. You are a coach, and my guess is you are a good one. But, unfortunately, being a good coach and successful coach do not go hand in hand. So, let's identify right now, right here HOW you stand in your own way. Something just came to mind as I said those words. Write
it down, because I am sure that you know. Don't edit it or judge it, just write it!
Now, what to do with it?!? Write down 3 things that would happen right away if you got out of your way and STOPPED being in the way; if this "thing" wasn't there. Perhaps it is a belief: "I am not good enough" (I hear this one a lot, so we will use it as an example). Write down how your presentations would change, your interactions would change if you totally and fully believed that you were a talented, credible, fully capable coach. What in your business would be different? What would change?
Decide, to take action right now and move your business in a new direction. Step out of the way and move into your success. Take the belief that you have written down and re-write it. Write it in a fully positive, way. Back to our example: "I am a fully qualified coach." Now, I am sure you know the drill. It takes some work to move this belief into your reality. Tape it where you can see. Write it down every day, over and over, and the write your reaction to it. Watch as your beliefs begin to shift. And, finally, wear the rubber band and snap yourself, whenever you retreat into the "safety" of your old paradigm and old belief patterns.
Getting yourself out of your way is totally possible. It is something that I am sure you help your clients to do. Now, it is time to do it for yourself, so that you can achieve the level of success that you want and desire. Do the work and see the benefits. It will take you from being a penniless coach to being a successful and respected coach.
