Solar energy is finally coming into its own after more than 40 years of virtual stagnation. Public awareness of pollution and drastically increasing climate change has compelled governments' world wide to institute many new incentives for both homeowners and learning institutions to go green that include economic stimulus plans that focus on renewable energy sources and tax incentives for businesses and home owners who use renewable energy technologies. Many other renewable energy technologies are soon to follow in the footsteps of solar. The only step that needs to be taken is to educate Americans to the vital need for change and to institute properly certified training programs that focus on educating competent technicians and engineers.

Unfortunately most Americans and indeed most people in the world do not understand the profound impact that adding renewable energy technologies to their homes can benefit not only the environment but also drastically reduce the amount of cash that can be otherwise used to improve their lives, which they now spend on energy.

Many companies are taking the high road and instituting educational programs into schools across the country, and in many other countries world wide. Sanyo is an excellent example. They have started an initiative called "Think Gaia" to teach kids in Japan about the value of renewable energy and have also been building a solid relationship with the California Center for Sustainable Energy.

Many industry experts warn that anyone seeking a good school for renewable energy classes should use a great deal of caution. The whole point of standardizing

these courses and requiring certifications before entering the field is to insure that technicians and installers are properly trained before they try to install these technologies on anyone's home. Industry professionals want to make certain that the standards set are the standard used world wide. These are standards that are used all over the globe. Schools beginning training programs must under go both desk and onsite audits before they can be accredited.

Any training school that can provide not only a good educational program should also have been audited by responsible agencies and certified before beginning to accept students. Any student graduating from a class that isn't accredited can find themselves out of a lot of money when, in the near future the need to be certified becomes the requirement that all renewable energy technicians be certified. Most building trade's crafts have that requirement now and it will not be very many years before legislation is introduced to make the same requirements for the renewable energy industry. These standards are put into place no only to protect consumers but to protect the installer as well. No installer wants to have to defend himself in court from a lawsuit, simply because they cannot prove that they were qualified to do the work.

The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) provides a comprehensive list of accredited training programs that offer renewable energy courses on its website. Renewable energy is the wave of the future. Getting in now can greatly increase your chances of success.
