Most of us today are very much aware of the damage that is being done to the earth. We have watched Al Gore's film where he clearly shows the world what is happening to the polar ice caps and what we have to look forward to in the future if we continue on this destructive path of reckless behaviour. We are depleting the earth and damaging our environment due to our dependence on fuel for running our cars and for heating and cooling our homes.
Renewable energy is that which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tides and geothermal heat. This energy is renewable in the sense that it is constantly being replenished naturally. If we expect to save the world from total destruction we should begin to take advantage of Mother Nature's gifts and tap into the wind and sun in order to use their natural abilities to give us the power we need to live comfortably. Renewable energy is absolutely critical in our struggle against climate change. We have to shift our world to a low carbon economy and away from our dependence on coal and oil. Everyone agrees today that we have to substantially reduce our CO2 production over the next four or five decades, so this means that we need to use renewable energy now to eliminate our dependency on fossil fuels.
Home owners can do their part to reduce their own carbon footprint on this great planet of ours by installing solar panels on their homes and employing wind power to provide heat and warmth. Hot water can be obtained today by installing a solar powered
hot water system into a home. For cooling a home's interior during the summer months, a solar attic fan can be put into place that will cool up to 150 square metres of space. This type of fan draws outside air away from the eaves and other vents equally, to efficiently cool a home down. There is no need to run air conditioning or fans and the small price paid for the solar fan quickly pays for itself. Pair this with solar panels that warm your water and heat your home in the wintertime and you have your own renewable energy system customised just for you.
Renewable energy systems are what must be incorporated, not only by individuals, but by businesses and large corporations the world over. There is a lot of talk today about the environment and about what should be done to save the earth from further damage, but action is not being taken quickly enough.
Renewable energy systems are in fact available today, but very few people are taking advantage of them. Hopefully this will change soon as we are told we do not have a whole lot of time left to waste. Our children and grandchildren are depending on us to take the right steps in order to save the earth. If we do not begin to use alternative energy sources we will be putting our extended family members in peril. No one can even imagine what it could be like in fifty years not to be able to live in certain areas on earth because they have simply washed away. We have been warned and we must act.
