If you have a rare coin collection, it's critical that you care for it properly. Taking care of your rare coins ensures their value and only allows you to love them even more. Not understanding how to care for your them can cause you tears, frustration and even worse; the loss of some of your favorite coins. Don't let this happen to you. Learn to care for your coin collection properly and let them last as long as your enjoyment of this hobby does.

When collecting rare coins, handle them as little as possible. The natural oils and fine particles of dirt or debris that collects on your skin can cause damage to your delicate coins. To handle handle them correctly, do so only when wearing gloves of either cotton or latex. It's best to hold with a gentle but firm touch to the edge of the coin. Remember that the coins would not be rare if they were not unique treasures.

They would not be unique treasures if there were not so few of them. It's then only practical sense to understand that many of these lovely rare coins have not been able to last as long as the one you hold in your hands today. Taking gentle care of that coin is what has helped it to last much longer than the others.

Keep them in a protected box and on their mounts. Many who purchase rare coins do so with them arriving in a sealed condition, already protecting them in some way. It's best to leave well enough alone and keep

your most valuable coins in this protective covering for their well being. Taking care of them in this way means you'll have them for a long time.

There are many attractive settings and mounts ideal for the display of coins. If you don't like the current display or mount, ask the dealer you purchased it from for some advice. They may know of some options. Do not remove the coin yourself. This curiosity could cost you this treasure in your collection!

One of the worst things you can do for coins is to leave them unprotected from your daily environment. We all know how temperature fluctuations can have us reaching for a sweater or taking one off, or opening a window or turning on the air conditioner. Depending on where you live, the environmental changes can be much more extreme or mild. But it's all the same for your delicate and fragile rare coins; it is simply too much for them.

Again, keep them in their protective cases and enjoy looking at them in this way. Exposing them to your environment can cause them damage and you'll lose the beauty of your special coins.

The top word to remember when handling your coins is: gentleness. Everything you do you want to do with gentleness. Nothing too extreme, nothing too strong. Everything done with gentle care. Remember, that your coin collection has been on a long journey to be with you now. Treasure them and enjoy their unique value. Caring for them properly will mean you can ensure passing them down to future generations.
