The government upon which our Country was founded was truly unique in the freedoms it offered and the rights it gave. Knowing how we as American citizens can maintain those freedoms and rights is the first question many have when trying to get involved in the political life of American democracy. Knowing, however, is half the battle. The following steps are things we can do to keep the democracy alive by allowing our voices to be heard.

The first step is to know what is going on around you in the first place. Read the news from a trusted source, watch the news and research your own opinion on the matter, and think about the effects that many issues will result in later on. Most media will throw their own spin on a given matter, usually quite liberally, so stay connected with a trusted source such as conservative news sites, etc.

The second step is to ask questions. Once you hear of the issues and matters going on in a political campaign or news site, interact with officials by asking them questions that you are concerned about. The best time to do

this is during a political campaign or event by attending rallies and functions that politicians are holding. Get the answer first-hand and attend whatever functions you can- it is a right and responsibility that any citizen can enjoy.

The third step is to decide. Once you have gathered up information, asked your questions, and thought it out, decide where you stand by comparing your own views and opinions to what is taking place. This is where you ask yourself what political candidate compares with what you believe. Do they support their belief's according to their own actions?

The last step is to act. Making sure you are a registered voter and making your voice heard is the best way, but you may also have to take matters to officials. Start with your local politicians as they are typically easier to reach, then move your way up until you are in touch with the right people to handle your concerns.

Taking the first step is always the hardest. Be prepared by being informed and stay tuned to a conservative news site that offers you updated information regularly. It's a responsibility we must all accept.
