There is a wide variety of vaporizers available in the marketplace today. They range from simple to high end models. All are designed to fulfill the requirement of people in need. Basically, vaporizers are brought into use to release therapeutic compounds from herbs and the active ingredients of plant material, tobacco and most commonly cannabis. Thankfully, vaporizers never burn the herb and thus don't produce the lethal by-products. A vaporizer works by simply heating the material, ideally to 180C (356F). So on the ground of the heating method of vaporizers; they can be classified into three categories. They are as follows,

Convection way of heating the herb

Conduction way of heating the substance and

Radiation way of heating the substance

In the convection way of heating the herb, the substance itself never comes in touch with heating constituent. In this method, hot air passes through it and heats it quickly, which in turn causes the release of the active elements. If the extraction chamber makes utilization of the Venturi effect design, this convection way of heating the substance releases more active constituents than conduction method of heating the elements.

But in the conduction methods of heating, the substance is put into the contact with a metal

plate and thus it is heated and releases the active ingredients. But the undesirable part of this method is that the direct contact between herbs and the hot metal can cause the herbs to burn. And burning of the herbs produces many lethal by-products injurious to heath. This is one of the main reasons why convection way of heating is not a preferred approach and is hardly ever used in modern vaporizer models.

As far as the radiation method of heating the substance is concerned, in this very method the substance is contingent on the bright light as the name suggests. The substances or herb used absorb the radiant energy and this is how its temperature raises high.

Apart from the above-mentioned criteria of the classification of the vaporizers, there is another very imperative categorization for vaporizers. They include the extraction chambers, the type of materials used in the heating element, and delivery means. Most commonly vaporizers with wood box and whip make use of a heating element with a glass extraction chamber and rubber or plastic tubing for delivery. This is a very successful approach. But even with all that there are some apprehensions about off-gassing depending on the materials used in the construction.
