How annoying is that scratchiness and irritation that is a result of dry eyes? Unfortunately, many people who have desk jobs find that they have to sit for eight or more hours per day looking at a computer screen. As a result, they suffer from this problem. So how can you overcome the dry eyes symptoms?

First, my recommendation is to take frequent, short and regular breaks. Many desk jobs will allow this. However, even if they do not, you ought to look away from the screen for a minute or two at least every twenty minutes. It is a known fact that the dry eyes occur for many computer users because of the intense focus and strain on their eyes for long periods. This is why, when you have been working very hard all day, and you go home and look in the mirror, your eyes are very red. Simply taking those short breaks relaxes the eyes a little bit. You should allow frequent breaks to minimize the strain on them. When there is less strain, you are less likely to suffer from dry eyes.

Secondly, eating fruits and vegetables in a large number can also help you with your

problem largely. Some vegetables, such as carrots, contain large portions of Vitamin A, which is great for your eyes. More than just keeping you from getting dry eyes, it will actually improve your eyesight. Therefore, if you want to eat a healthy snack while you are at your desk, carrots would be perfect. They are extremely healthy and tasty too!

Another thing I would recommend is getting some over the counter eye drops. Some people naturally have dry eyes. This is irrespective of their diet or the fact that they take regular breaks. The next best option is simply to put in some saline solution eye drops that will help combat the symptoms of dry eyes. They are good for the eyes when one uses them in moderation and can be extremely soothing. Before you begin using these over the counter options on a regular basis, it is highly recommend talking to your eye doctor to see if there are other conditions causing the problem of dry eyes.

Thus, with regular breaks to relax the eyes, proper food and some over the counter medication, you can combat the problem of dry eyes effectively while sitting behind a computer throughout the day.
