"Save the planet" is a recurring theme that many are interested in furthering. Various earth-friendly practices have come into effect to achieve this objective. Supermarkets switching from plastic bags to ones made of cloth that can be purchased and then reused as many times as possible is just one example.

Fortunately, many organizations in different industries have caught on to the goal and are attempting to do their part to contribute to the effort of turning the planet more eco-friendly.

Local restaurants, exercise gymnasiums, movie watcher clubs and even insurance companies are just a few trying to promote greener pastures.

What method are these corporations using to fulfill the earth-friendly intent?

A compostable membership card is the solution adopted to promote the purpose.

In the past, a membership card issued by one of these businesses was made from a type of non-biodegradable plastic that would literally last forever due to its lack of ability to break down into a natural substance and then meld naturally into the earth.

Nowadays, the practice of these corporations is to distribute membership identification cards made from new fibrous materials that can break down just as easily as the rind from a fruit. This characteristic gives the cards the ability to be used as backyard compost after a

year has passed and a new card is handed out, thus giving it the name compostable membership card.

However, the contribution to healthier soil is not the only reason for obtaining a biodegradable membership card.

Businesses of the non-membership type also hand out compostable cards in an effort to entice their customers to come back over time. Sandwich cafes, coffee shops, and frozen yogurt eateries enjoy offering their customers the ability to buy so many of an item to receive the next one they purchase for free, with the purchase trail recorded on said card. And when these cards are made from recyclable materials, it ultimately costs the consumer less overall for the product since the fees for buying brand new, never-used paper for membership card printing no longer applies to the company's expenditures.

Third on the list of advantages is the fact that these cards utilize the green technology of laser printing to emboss their graphics and logos onto the card's surface. This practice also allows the card to have a short life span, so as to make it easier for the consumer when receiving a new card for each year of membership in the designated club.

Contributing to the concept of a greener planet just got a little easier.
