If you are looking for a good way to help people in your community have better lives, you may want to consider helping out some of the local food charities. These charities have really become vital to so many more people than usual these last few years with the amount of unemployment and lack of jobs plaguing the country. You will be able to find charities in every state, every county almost surely, and there are bound to be some that for one reason or another really catch your eye. The best way to help out food charities is probably to look at those in your county and your state. There are lists of different charities of many types that are created for people like you who are interested in helping those who are less fortunate than you.

There are many organizations that serve as charities that you no doubt know but may not have ever really thought of them as charities. Examples of these are the YMCA and the YWCA. However, you are probably thinking of your local food pantry, right? These local pantries sometimes for many people are the only things standing between hungry, unemployed people, their children and hunger. Usually all you have to do is call or go in to a local food pantry and tell them you want to help! They are always more than willing to have more help. This does not just mean that

they need you to donate a bunch of non perishable food items, either. They need volunteers to work food drives, to pick up and deliver goods to and from people in the area, and they also need volunteers to do everything else that is needed. Monetary donations are fine, but your time and effort is really something special to those who run food charities and those who get their food from them.

Other types of food charities are those that deliver healthy meals to those who are shut ins, those who cannot afford food, and those who need some extra help in menu preparation, planning and delivery for other reasons. Many of these charities also help specific groups of people who are working with limited budgets, such as correctional facilities, schools, different non profit organizations and more in addition to individual people. They might serve veterans who are having issues or troubles with food. Some of these food charities do have websites, so your best bet would be to do a search for your city and see what sites pop up.

Food charities today are certainly feeling the backlash of the current economic crunch; although many times they do have a hard time finding enough food in some areas for everyone who is in need, many times they are also working in partnerships with wholesale food distributors who are more than willing to help those food charities find the food that is needed.
