To put it mildly there have many cases of cyberbullying that have made it to court in the past year than have been in the previous three years combined. This number can only get worse with what I perceive to be the generation of meanness, which is in the teens and young adults of today. Basically the act of cyberbullying is trying to get the other person to feel bad or spread a rumor, or the intent to really hurt someone whether it is by text, email, social networking sites like facebook and myspace. Cyberbullying is just as serious as physical tormenting and bullying in school, and it leads to very grave consequences for the victims and their families.

When two children are involved, it is then that the act is classified as cyberbullying. If an adult is involved it is considered to by cyber harassment or cyber stalking. Now, us as parents have to step up and do what we can to keep our children safe and if it means spying on your children then so be it. There have been children who have been beat up, killed or committed suicide because of their involvement with some type of online incident and problems and can possibly be avoided by some information on

how to get smart when it comes to your teens today and cyberbullying.

There are some predators out there that use tactics to lure unsuspecting teens into giving out personal information by posing as somebody from school who is adamant on getting this information from you. This should be a red flag that this might be a bad situation and kids should tell their parents immediately. Most parents if they have done their homework will know how to handle the situation the right way. When this magnitude of cyberbullying occurs there can be self trauma from the other degrading the person and a feeling of anger, withdraw, and untrusting of individuals in general.

If parents see this occurring then there should be a talk about what is bothering them and not to be to overpowering because if you do they will never talk to you again about the subject. It is important for parents to make sure that their children know that they need to always speak out and tell their parents about anything that they feel is going on. Children need to not remain silent, speak out and never participate in the actions. Kids need to understand that they have power and influence when it comes to stopping cyberbullying.
