If someone you know has finally talked you into purchasing a big, beautiful LCD TV, you may now be sweating over the basic LCD setup. Many people at first wonder how basic it really is! You can go ahead and have a professional install it, but many people dont really want to spend the money on that. There are many advantages to hiring a professional, so if you have the money it is strongly recommended. However, if you choose to do it yourself, you are going to need to start your basic LCD setup with the TV mount.

At the beginning of your basic LCD setup, when you open up the wall mount kit box, you will find a wall plate that attaches to the wall and brackets that will go on the back of your TV. These brackets are made to fit the holes that have been pre drilled into the back of the display. Even though wall mount kits are universal, and the hardware is too, there are options that you are going to look at. If you are looking for a super clean mount, you are going to want to go with the basic flat wall mount for the basic LCD installation. These kits keep your TV within one inch of the wall. However, you wont be able to tilt the TV at all, so you need to

carefully think about where you will put your TV for the best view for the entire room.

If you are going to need or want to tilt, turn, or pivot the angle of the TV, you are going to want to use a tilt mount. The TV is held further out from the wall to allow for extra space for tilting. The degree of tilt depends on the model and manufacturer of the mount. Some tilt mounts can move with just your hand because they use a ratchet system, and other models for basic LCD installation require a special tool to be used to tilt the angle of the television. If you think you are going to be moving the display often, you may want to take the extra expense in your basic LCD installation budget and go for the ratchet system so that it is easier and more convenient to move.

Another option for a wall mount are the mounts that you see in hospital rooms and offices. These allow the TV to be pulled away from the wall, tilted and swiveled for many different positions. For basic LCD installation purposes, these types of wall mounts are called articulating wall mounts, and these offer the most flexibility for positioning, but the one big drawback is that it all will stick out much further from the wall, so consider this for basic LCD installation.
