The sixth season of Kathy Griffin's Bravo reality show My Life on the D List may have only premiered just over a month ago, but the flame-haired comedienne is already stirring up controversy! E! Online reports that The View cohost Elisabeth Hasselbeck called Griffin "scum" during a July 19 episode of the daytime talk show. So what sparked the verbal smack down? During an episode of My Life on the D List, Griffin joked about Republican Sen. Scott Brown's daughters, calling them prostitutes.
Explaining her comment, Griffin said, "You have to remember that the genesis of that whole joke about Scott Brown was that when he won the election he famously said, 'My two daughters are available.' Then he was called a 'pimp' in the Washington press...The bottom line is, lighten up!" Hasselbeck's co-host Joy Behar, for one, sided with Griffin. "I know my daughter's not a prostitute, so it'd be funny. It's just a joke, Elizabeth," Behar said on The View.
The Scott Brown remarks aren't the only political drama Kathy Griffin has become entangled in lately, as the comedienne and reality star has been speaking out about the engagement of Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin, the daughter of former GOP presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Griffin, 49, and Johnston, 20, attended the 2009 Teen Choice Awards together last August and now Griffin is taking the couple's surprise engagement (which they naturally revealed in an exclusive with Us Weekly-before telling their families!) hard.
A heartbroken Griffin released a side-splitting video after Bristol Palin, 19, and Johnston announced their engagement on July
15, in which she rips out photos from Johnson's photo spread in Playgirl magazine while Celine Dion's "All By Myself" plays in the background, reports the New York Daily News. "Oh y did I trust my heart 2 a 19 year old ice-fisherman/babydaddy from Wasila. Like Britney I'm putting myself on a 5150 pysch hold," Griffin tweeted after learning of the engagement (which is rumored to be called off...again), although she did reveal that a new young star has caught her eye: Twilight hunk Taylor Lautner!
Although her frequent headline appearances, guest-starring role on Law & Order SVU and pair of Emmys may suggest that she has moved up to the A list, Kathy Griffin's My Life on the D list is still going strong on Bravo. Bravo's official My Life on the D List page reveals that season six of the popular reality show will feature appearances by A-listers like Lauren Conrad, Liza Minnelli and Kristen Chenoweth. Kathy has already stormed Washington, D.C. to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" this season, and Bravo reveals that season six will also see her judging a toddler beauty pageant alongside her 90-year-old mother Maggie, a series regular.
