Acapulco which is officially known as Acapulco de Juarez is a city and a major port in the state of Guerrero on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. It is located on a deep semi-circular bay and has been an important port since the early colonial period of Mexico's history. The city of Acapulco is the largest in the state leaving behind even the state capital Chilpancingo.

Acapulco has always been known as one of the oldest beach resorts of Mexico which has been the favorite getaway for Hollywood stars and the millionaires. It has still retained the vibrant nightlife which is a major attraction for the visitors.

The resort is broadly divided into two parts: The north end of the bay which is also considered the traditional area and which was quite famous as a resort destination during the mid-20th century. This side of the bay is also called as "Tradicional" or "Nautica" The south end of the bay is home to the newer luxury high rise hotels.

The name of the city comes from the Nahautl language Aca-pol-co which means "At the Big Reeds" or "at the broken reeds." "De Juarez" was added to the official name in 1885 to honor the former President of Mexico, Benito Juarez.

Acapulco is one of the most sought after tourist destination in Mexico. Earlier it was inhabited by celebrities and affluent people from the US but now the trend is shifting towards the local population. Over the years, the Mexican middle class has increasingly started visiting this beautiful city.

The major attractions of the city include:
Cliff Divers at La Quebrada: This is one of the most mesmerizing and awe-inspiring sights in the city. The divers at La Quebrada dive from a dizzying 136-foot rocky cliff into the bay below. The narrow inlet where these divers take a plunge is just 7 meters wide and 4 meters deep. The most crucial aspect of the dive is the timing which has to be expertly

managed. This has become the enduring symbol of the city.

Beaches: There are many beaches along the bay in Acapulco. Some of these are very old frequented by the high flyers of the 50s and 60s. Among them are the Caleta and Caletilla Beaches which are protected by the Roqueta Island and ensures a greater level of privacy.

Another major attractive beach is the Condesa Beach which is famous for its tourist and commercial activity. It is also perfect for the people who love to ride the high waves. The beach also has several restaurants and bars which gives it a festive look all through the year.Other beaches include the Barra Vieja which is an open sea beach and also the Pie de la Cuesta which is world known for its amazing sunsets. Then there are also Puerto Marques, Punta Diamante and also the Revolcadero Beach.

Deep Sea Fishing: Acapulco is also famous for deep sea fishing and visitors coming to this place really enjoy this activity here. There is an abundance of sail fish as well as other species of fish in the waters near the Bay. There are also boat or yacht trips to navigate the high seas and get your own prized treasures.

Night life: One of the main attractions of the city is its night life which has been consistently attracting visitors over the last so many decades. There is an array of night clubs, bars and restaurants. Most of these places start after 11 pm and continue operation right through the midnight. These night clubs attract a lot of crowd. Some of the modern high rise hotels have their own bars and at times also have the dance clubs too. The cover charges for the same vary too and are most times are higher for men as compared to the women.

Thus, the visitors can have a fun-filled stay at Acapulco given so much to do and see. It is an unforgettable experience by almost any standards.
